1How often should I get an eye examination?
Annually. Clear and comfortable vision are more important today due to intense visual demands at work and play. Whether your vision is naturally perfect, you’ve had LASIK, or even if your vision is good with your current glasses or contacts, annual examinations are critical to ensure you have the sharpest vision and the healthiest of eyes.
2What is LASIK?
LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. This FDA approved excimer laser corrects myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia, (farsightedness), and astigmatism by reshaping the human cornea. LASIK’s objective is to reduce a person's dependency on glasses or contact lenses. If you're not a good LASIK candidate, there are several other eye correction surgeries available like PRK, LASEK, and phakic IOL surgery. Eye Trends-Barker Cypress doctors can determine which procedure is suitable for your condition and are very qualified and experienced to co-manage each procedure.
3How do I know if I need LASIK?
LASIK and other laser-based refractive surgeries are an elective process. The incredible freedom of seeing clearly without the aid of contact lenses or eye glasses from LASIK is an absolutely amazing and gratifying reward. Each Eye Trends-Barker Cypress doctor has significant experience on selecting who is an excellent candidate for this wonderfully freeing procedure! Call us today for your FREE LASIK consultation.
4What is Pink eye and how is it treated?
“Pink Eye” is a collective term used to describe a type of conjunctivitis; an inflammation and or redness of the eyes outer tissues. There are three basic types of conjunctivitis: Allergic, Bacterial, and Viral. If you are having an eye issue, CALL US TODAY! Our National Board Of Examiners In Optometry (NBEO) certified eye doctors can help you feel better, fast! Allergic: Itchy, watery, red and burning sensation are common symptoms. This condition is not contagious and is generally best treated with prescription anti-histamine drops. Classically both eyes are affected. However, it can present in one eye via direct contact from the allergen being introduced to an eye. Bacterial: Usually presents with a color (greenish or yellowish) discharge from one or both eyes. May cause eyelids to stick together. Not overtly contagious yet can be spread by direct contact with infected hands or other items that have previously touched an infected eye. Viral: Similar symptoms to allergic conjunctivitis including light sensitivity. One or both eyes may be involved. This type of conjunctivitis is highly contagious and may easily be spread from one person to another.
5What is the right age to start having my child get eye exams?
Generally before your child begins grade school; around 5 years of age. However, if you notice your child has an eye turn, or they are frequently rubbing their eye(s), or they seem to struggle to see clearly at a distance as compared to others with known good vision, or if you notice they have balance or clumsiness concerns, an eye exam may be warranted sooner.
6What is ocular disease?
A disorder of the structure or function in and around the eye, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms in the eye like diabetes, high blood pressure, issues from glaucoma and retinal disease, macula and optic nerve diseases, and corneal issues such as keratoconus.
7Are there different eye exams for glasses vs. contacts?
Yes. The primary reason for the differences is when something is physically sitting on your eyes (contacts) versus something located in front of your eyes (glasses), the dynamics are extremely different. Therefore, additional evaluative techniques and skills must be implemented to ensure it is safe for the patient to wear contact lenses.
8What is Astigmatism?
Astigmatism means rays of light entering your eye focuses in different areas in the back of your eye instead of just one area.
9What is Presbyopia treatment?
Presbyopia is the reduced ability of our eye’s to focus at near. As a result, we tend to hold items back further. When the arms can't be pushed back any further, the decision for reading glasses, bifocals, trifocals, progressive, or occupational progressive lenses become an excellent and very functional selection. Another exciting option to improve your up close up vision are bifocal contact lenses.
10Are there sports eyewear?
Absolutely! Today’s safety glasses and sports vision glasses are constructed of lightweight, rugged polymers and fantastic fun designs to look great while protecting your eyes. All Eye Trends-Barker Cypress safety products strictly adhere to ANSI. Z87.1 safety guidelines.
11Are there different types of contact lenses?
In today's world, there are contact lens products for almost every imaginable lens prescription. From daily disposables to monthly replacement lenses, torics (for astigmatism) to multi-focal (bifocal), and clear to color contact lenses, we have it all for you. 12What should I look for when buying glasses?
An excellent reputable practice such as Eye Trends-Barker Cypress. Our superb reputation for quality and service has been well earned since opening in 2002. 13What should I look for when buying sunglasses?
Something as important as protecting your precious eyes, you should only entrust them with a reputable premium sunglass lens manufacturer. 100% UV & UVB protection, 100% IR protection, Anti-Reflective coatings, uniform wavelength controlled visual spectrum, and a highly ground and polished lens makes for a remarkably clear and visually comfortable product. We proudly offer Maui Jim, Oakley, and Ray Ban, to name a few, and we can transform almost any eye glass into an incredible sunglass.
14How should I take care of my glasses to make them last?
Texas weather means not leaving your premium eye glasses exposed to the intense sun and heat in your car. Placing your eye glasses in their case AND then into the glove box helps protect them from the sun's powerful rays. Putting on or removing your glasses, use two hands to reduce undue torque. A common patient concern is their lens may scratch despite adding "scratch resistant" coatings -there is no such thing as scratch proof- scratches may still occur. Eye Trends-Barker Cypress includes a free, one-year non-scratch warranty on every lens when purchased with a premium lens anti-reflective coating. Use a quality micro cloth to clean your lenses and never use tissues or paper towels as they contain wood fibers and will readily scratch your lenses.

As such, we may want to consider how we can best utilize our eye glasses: Protection- both in the workplace and for the hobbyist, for the beach enthusiast to the mountain explorer, and Style- from traditional to the avant-garde, the look and feel that connects to you.
17What is the importance of "Blue Light" protection?
Blue light is known to cause visual strain, headaches, physical and mental fatigue. Blue light comes from our sun, most electronic device (cell phones/laptops, etc), and both fluorescent and LED lighting. By utilizing blue light filters in your eyeglasses, you can eliminate many eye strain related issues.

My family has been coming to this location for 3 years because of Dr. Ziskrout. He is extremely personable and intelligent. His exams are like talking with an old friend. And if you are not a fan of eye exams, this is the office to come to because they make you feel at ease the entire time. Carlos is also very good at his job. Finding you the best glasses and getting all of the insurance information together so you know your budget. I love that this office texts appointment reminders and when glasses are ready for pick up. They are a well run office and it shows. Thank you Eye Trends Barker Cypress!
